The PAN Project: MusicUnitesUs Residency in Brandeis University
Saturday, March 4 at 8:00 pm
Brandeis University, Waltham, MA
The PAN Project draws its name from Korean Pan-so-ri, where ‘Pan’ refers to gathering together (both performers and the audience) for mutual entertainment. Led by Prof. Jeff Robeerts in University of Alberta, the PAN project (http://www.jeff-roberts.org/pan-project) includes two Korean Gugak players: Gamin (piri and saenghwang) and Woon-Jung Sim (janggu). As the culmination of their residency in Brandeis University, a concert on March 4 will feature intercultural and holistic expressions.
Five performers are: Jeff Roberts (guqin – Chinese 7-string instrument), Gamin Kang (piri; saengwhang – reed mouth organ), Woon-jung Sim (janggu, buk), Kaoru Watanabe (shinobue – Japanese flute; taiko – drum), and Ying-chieh Wang (erhu – Chinese fiddle with two strings).
During the residency, performers participate in various classrooms, which are open to the public. Check class schedules and topics at http://www.musicunitesus.info/schedule-spring2017.html.
